DEVELOP Professional Seminar – Whiteness in Psychotherapy

During this seminar, we will explore how racial inequalities in psychotherapy and mental health are a function of the underlying structure of Whiteness in the profession. It will mainly be an interactive and reflective space to explore ways in which cultural Whiteness affects therapeutic relationships and work, notably through the notions of cultural assumptions, working within a social context and POWER dynamics. We aim to support you to start thinking more critically about our theory and practice while keeping an ethical perspective and a practice of self-care.

This seminar is for you if you are a therapist or a mental health professional:

Explore how these dynamics may have affected you personally
Get support to start reflecting on your own practice and how you may be reproducing them
Keep an ethical perspective working within a social context
If you are a service user or client:
Examine what lies at the root of Whiteness and inequalities within mental health professions
Gain knowledge that will help you assess if a therapist is right for you considering your needs
We are excited to start reflecting and unlearning together.
