THE BODY SPACE: Yoga Nidra

We have been introducing ways to connect to our bodies more fully as we connect with one another and with the learning that Race Reflections provides.

The body we are continuing to argue is neglected in epistemic exchanges and reflections. This is not tenable when we are working with trauma loaded material or engaging with the embodied reality of inequality, injustice and oppression. THE BODY SPACE is a space open to DEVELOPMENT & ORGANISE MEMBERS  of Race Reflections. We will initially practice yoga Nidra to relax, activate self-soothing and integrate our learning through our body.

Session description

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that will help soothe and settle your nervous system and lead you into states of deep relaxation and restoration. The language used in these Yoga Nidra practices is permissive and trauma-sensitive and rooted in the ethics of Ahimsa, which is Sanskrit for non-violence.

As you lie down during a Yoga Nidra session, you will be guided through gentle breathing, guided imagery and profound relaxation into a place of deep rest, self-compassion and ease within yourself.

As you rest in an expansive and resourced state of consciousness, you’ll be invited to gently explore your embodied responses to the community discussion.

You’ll emerge with greater clarity and renewed perspective, feeling nurtured, centred and whole.

Session instructions

To make the most out of our Yoga Nidra session:

*Please switch off your camera.

*Have a quiet, undisturbed space to lie down in. You can lie in bed or on a yoga mat.

*Please wear loose, comfortable clothing.

*Comfort is everything so have a blanket, pillows or cushions to hand and an eye mask if you wish.

Our facilitator

Navreet Chawla, our Yoga Virtuoso will facilitate the sessions. Navreet has over twenty-five years of experience as a yoga practitioner and teacher. Her unique style of Yoga Nidra is a blend of storytelling and, trauma-informed practice. Learn more about her here.

Dates of meetings 

The body space sessions will take place after the community meeting (which take place every second Saturday of the month from 13h30 to 15h00) from 15h30 to 16h30. The first one will take place on August 14th 2021 – then monthly until further notice.
