Certificate In Working With Racial Trauma – COMMUNITY SEMINAR

ASSESSING FOR  RACIAL TRAUMA – 25 May 2026 18h30-20h00

This is our first community/public seminar on the certificate in working with racial trauma using the foundation of Group Analysis (Foundation Course in Group Analysis), this year.

In it, we’ll explore the assessment of racial trauma and approaches to culturally, socially, and power-aware analytic care and examine the chronic, cumulative, and systemic nature of racial trauma, highlighting how it extends beyond discrete events and intersects with social, historical, and structural contexts.

This seminar offers a brief introdution to psychoanalytic and group dynamics and how unconscious processes, transference, and countertransference influence assessment and the therapeutic encounter; as well as an opportunity to reflect on how intergenerational trauma may unconsciously shape responses and reactivity to experiences not personally faced in the clinic.

Held on ZOOM, this FREE seminar will also introduce the Foundation Course, walk you through the structure and ethos of the programme for those interested, and offer a space for questions, reflection and discussion.

Whether you’re planning to apply next year or are simply curious, this session will help you to understand how we may formally assess racial trauma in the clinic or the community and what to look out for.

This is a space intended for mental health practitioners, trainees, educators, activists, and those affected by or working with racialised violence and all those considering to enrol onto the Foundation course (application for the next cohort will open this summer)
